What you need to know when
the power goes out
 
  • First, check your breaker box or fuse for tripped circuits or blown fuses. If they are okay then see if neighbors have power. This would confirm if an outage has occurred in just your residence or within the neighborhood area.

  • After performing the steps above, report your outage to the PEPB 24 hour Customer Service Line: 270/365-2031


  • Turn off all electrical equipment to prevent overloading the system when power is restored. Turn on one light so you will know when service is restored.

  • Listen to a battery operated radio for updates on major outages.

Safety Tips...
 
  • Treat all downed power lines as if they are “live” or energized. Keep yourself and others away from any downed power lines. Call the PEPB Customer Service Line immediately.

  • Use battery-operated flashlights. Store extra batteries.

  • Customers with generators should make sure they are properly installed by a licensed electrician. Improperly installed
    generators pose a significant danger to you and our crews.

  • Call 9-1-1 for any emergency help

  • If a utility line falls across your vehicle, do not get out. Wait for the emergency crew to arrive.

  • To prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, use generators, grills, and similar items outdoors only.

  • Stay at home and be safe during an outage. Stores and gas stations may be closed. Don’t add to the confusion by driving around.
